Ultimate Drum Editing --- part 1

This is Dr. Aoyama. With this session, we begin volume two of the popular "Anatomy of XG" series. In a series of six seminars, I plan to introduce you to a more advanced level of XG. Although our topics might not be unfamiliar for those of you who are already experienced in desktop music, permit me to consider this the "beginning of the advanced section." We will begin by exploring the flexibility of the drum kit, which is one of the advantages of the XG format.

Editing of drum voices (in XG, referred to as drum setup editing) can be done using either system exclusive messages or using NRPN. In other words, there are two ways to achieve the same result. However, the XG format recommends that as far as possible, NRPN should be used, so let's talk about editing using NRPN. Of course, some types of drumset editing can be accomplished only by using system exclusive, and we will talk about that in our next session.
