A diary by a GM/GS user

Profile
Naoki Matsuura
Mr. Matsuura got his hands on an electric bass for the first time as a teenager and has been playing ever since. He moved to the US in 1983 to study at the Berklee College of Music. As a freshman, he started playing professionally at Boston-area jazz clubs as well as for radio and TV. Back then, he played with major musicians like Tiger Okoshi, Tonino Oruta, Masahiko Osaka, and Carlos Sugano. In 1991 he returned to Japan and worked for a musical instrument company (this kind of move is jokingly referred to as "Kosei" or rehabilitation amongst Japanese musicians). Using his many years of experience working with MIDI technology, he set up his own company, Presto Corporation, where he functions as both president and as a producer.

Hi! At first, I was a bit hesitant to write this article because I thought that they wanted me to compare the XG system with the GS. The GS has been kind of like my right hand for a long time now, but the XG is relatively new to me. Later, I learned that the objective of this clinic is to document, in a diary-type format, the process of how a GS guy begins to work more comfortably in a different environment. This seemed OK with me so I thought that I would give it a try.
